Student Care

(1) HEALTHCARE


 Free health care is provided to the students who are not covered by any other insurance. Insurance covers the years of study required to obtain a degree plus two ( 2) additional years. To provide a healthcare booklet, University of Patras students should be addressed to the Secretary of the Department.

Required in order to obtain the healthcare booklet:

  • A statement of Law 1599/1986 that you want the healthcare provided by University of Patras and are not insured by another provider.
  • A photograph

(2) FEEDING


Undergraduate and graduate students of the University, who meet certain criteria are entitled to free meals . The submission of applications starts with the beginning of the academic year and there is no deadline. Upon acceptance of the application is provided to students free feeding card. (3) BUS STUDENT TICKET


The student ticket ( pass ) Academic Identity is granted to undergraduate students if their studies have not exceeded the course of years required to receive a degree plus two (2 ) years, with two ( 2) years for graduate students and four (4 ) years for doctoral candidates via the information system Eudoxos.

Not eligible for a student ticket are students registered in the Department after their application for obtaining an additional degree. The student is not eligible for a student pass when he joins the army and when he/she suspends his/her studies and as long as this lasts (Article 29 , paragraph 10 of Law 1268/1982).

(4) HOUSING


The Student Centre of the National Youth Foundation provides accommodation to students eligible for receiving free meals. For more information, students should contact the Student Residence at: 2610-992359-361 and fax 2610-993550.

(5) UNIVERSITY GYM


University Gym operates on campus. The student enrollment is at the beginning of their academic year. Depending on their desire and inclination, students can join one or more of the following athletic departments:

  • Department of Athletics
  • Sports Center (Volleyball, Basketball, Football)
  • Shooting
  • Department of Table Tennis ( Ping Pong )
  • Department of Chess
  • Department of Tennis
  • Department of Swimming
  • Department of Skiing, Mountaineering
  • Department of Excursions
  • Department of Cycling
  • Department of Folk dances


(6) LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SERVICE


The Library and Information Service is the most neuralgic service of the University of Patras.
From September 2003 it operates at its own building located on campus, NE the building of Civil Engineering and roads between Aristotle and sparingly. The new building has four levies with a total area of 12.000 m2 of which the LIS occupies 8.000 m2. Library is open access and provides factual information and material to anyone interested.

The Acquisition of the library material is dictated by the subjects taught at the University of Patras. There are approximately 90,000 scientific writings of Greek and foreign authors (after the integration of departmental libraries of the Mathematics and Economics) and 2,700 journal titles of which 673 are current print subscriptions. The Library and Information Service provides access through its website to the full text of about 7,924 electronic journal titles. The informative part of LIS includes several encyclopaedias, general and special dictionaries and manuals. It also has electronic databases, bibliographic information and full texts or online connection in either CDROM, audio cassettes, audio CD, videotape , film and mikrotypa .
It also has an order section for inter-library exchange/borrowing oflending articles or books from other Greek and foreign libraries; an audiovisual language lab; a computer lab with 24 computers with Internet connection their use requires a reservation; conference room and training room as well as two cooperation and three individual graduate students reading rooms.

There are also photocopiers material not borrow .

All LIS and partly that of the departmental libraries of the University has entered into an electronic database. The contents of the database may be accessed in several ways:

1. Through the Internet page of the online catalogue OPAC,
2. LIS Site

Access to LIS is open to faculty members of the University, to undergraduate and graduate students and University of Patras staff. To use all the services of LIS user registration and the acquisition of specific "user card " is required.
Persons not belonging to the above categories, external users, can make use of the services of LIS services by paying a small fee.

The LIS is open daily except Saturday and Sunday with the following schedule:

  • January-June : Monday - Friday 8.00 to 21.00
  • July 1-20 : Monday - Friday 8.00 to 18.00
  • 21/7 - August 31 : Monday - Friday 8.00eos 14.30
  • September: Monday - Friday 8.00 to 18.00
  • October to December : Monday - Friday 8.00 to 21.00

The LIS does not work on official holidays . During the half holiday working hours are reduced . Any change in the working hours stated in relevant printed communication in the field of LIS and its website. More information one can retrieve online at LIS www.lis.upatras.gr.
